To be eligible for Tennessee Promise, a student must:

  • Be a high school senior, beginning with the class of 2015
  • Graduate from an eligible Tennessee high school, complete a Tennessee homeschool program or obtain a GED or HiSET diploma before their 19th birthday
  • Apply by the November deadline of their high school senior year or the year in which they obtained the GED/HiSET
  • Work with a mentor and attend mandatory meetings in their county

GED/HiSET Recipients and Tennessee Promise

GED/HiSET recipients are eligible for Tennessee Promise if they:

  • Complete the application by the November deadline
  • Meet all eligibility criteria
  • Enroll in an eligible program immediately following receipt of their diploma
  • Earn their diploma before turning 19
  • Scholarship Renewal

To renew the scholarship, students must:

  • Maintain full-time enrollment
  • Complete 8 hours of community service per term
  • Submit the FAFSA each year

  • The Tennessee Promise program is only available for high school graduates starting with the class of 2015.
