Which Is Preferable, www or non-www URL?

Post by IPman » March 17th, 2018, 4:35 pm

I have been making some research on which version of website URL is more preferable to search engine that can make a site rank faster and better on Google between www and non-www. Many confusing articles out there, and I can see that many websites out there appear on Google with www.
Can I conclude that www is more preferable for better ranking?
And can changing my URL from non-www to www affect my site ranking.

@admin , @solomon, @Raski @Rayne, @wiztech
Guys please what do you think.

I think www rank well in search engines, changing url might affect your site.

www or without www it really doesn't matter. Google does not favour one over the other, the most important thing for a website to get high rank on search engine is content.

I'll not make any changes at all if I were you. Any change will affect your ranking.

There is no difference between the two, just choose one and be consistent with it (i.e if you have been using www to get backlinks from other websites, continue with it and don't change it).

Another important thing is to set your preferred domain in Google webmaster tool and then redirect the other version in your htacess to make Google see your www and non-www as one, if not the content of your website will be regarded as duplicate content.

I'll drop a tutorial soon on how to set 301 redirect in htacess of your website.
