Google Adsense is one of the common way's website owners monetize their website through advertisement. There are basically 2 major types of Adsense account, hosted and non hosted account.
Adsense serve banner, text, video advertisement on their partner website and revenue are generated through PPC (Pay Per Click) and CPM (Cost Per Mile) basis.
Many people can't really differentiate between the two Adsense account type. Here, I'll throw more light on the differences between the hosted and non hosted adsense account.
Hosted Adsense Account
This type of account are approved on google partner websites. For instance, if you have an Adsense account approved on your blogspot site, you can't use the codes on your .com website.
The hosted adsense account can be upgraded to a non hosted account if you wish to use it on your own custom domain, all you have to do is to submit a request for upgrade from your dashboard.
Features of Hosted Adsense Account
1. Your account is easily approved
2. You can use it only on website that are hosted by Google.
3. Your earnings are not withheld, you can request for payment as soon as you reach payment threshold.
Non Hosted Adsense Account
This type of adsense account can be used on any of your website without restrictions. Approval of non hosted account are quite difficult but ones approved you can use the account to monetize every other website that you have.
Features of Non Hosted Adsense Account
1. Approval is difficult
2. Non hosted adsense can be used on all website that are owned by you (i.e you can use one non hosted Adsense account on all your website with a custom domain).
Hosted Adsense - when you visit a sites that has .blogspot.com as part of the url with Adsense displaying there.
Non - Hosted Adsense - The ones you will see on sites without .blogspot as part of the url
